Which car?
Answers:
Diesels are reliable, just the same as a petrol, it just depends on who has been looking after the vehicle as to how reliable it will be. I.e. a car that has been well maintained will obviously be better than a car that has not!
I own a diesel and haven't had any problems with it. whilst they are more economical (usually on longer distances) expect to pay more for diesel fuel. It's not masses more expensive but it is nonetheless.
You could pick up a nice little car for about £1500. I've had my fair share of cars, petrol and diesel and the best diesel i have come across is the VW Golf TDI. It's a medium sized car, but the engines are built to an excellent standard, they fare well on milage (my current one has done 130,000 miles and will probably go another 70,000 at least if i maintain it well), they are strong car and the engine is fantastic. whilst some diesels can be sluggish, the TDI pulls really well (has about 90bhp) it will sit comfortably on the motorway at 100mph and will go above if necessary (i'm a speed demon). it is very fuel efficient and if i drive it nicely it will do above 40 miles to the gallon.
you could pick up a nice Golf for 1500, although be prepared to see a high milage, as long as it has a full VW service history you can usually be assured you are getting yourself a good strong car, which will be reliable and quick.
I am talking about the mark three model by the way - not the new ones!
good luck with the car hunting!

depends on where you live. My hubby is a mechanic and he says that diesels do not start in the very cold tems. Here in Wisconsin if you dont have a heated garage you dont want a diesel.
diesels are more efficient if they are newer. but i doubt youll find a newer more efficient model for 1500 quid
Diesel might be more efficient but you need to look after it.also if you run out of diesel whilst driving you need to bleed the engine which can be a nightmare. A would suggest a vauxhall corsa, a good boy racer car and can be cheap second hand.
Yes diesel would be more economical however you can expect to pay more for a diesel Assuming you want to move up a class (otherwise you'd get another clio right?) a ford focus is always a safe choice or a golf even better if you have some extra £££ theres also the astra, and seat leon which also have good reputations. Would definately recommend going for many test drives for a bit of fun if any reason :)
I'm driving a 1999 Hyundai Excel (don't laugh - It's only costing me $20 for a tank of gas that lasts 10 days!) It's a 5 speed, and it's helping me save towards my BMW dream car! Hope you find something good & cheap! God bless!
corsa is a good little car diesel is dearer than petrol but you will do loads more miles in it.just don't forget when you fill up don't put petrol in the tank it wont go. hope you find a good car all the best.
Diesel cars tend to cost a bit more to buy, and to service, and in general have to be kept maintained, but they are economical compared to petrol , if you are in The UK don't worry about starting in cold weather it just doesn't get that cold here. They can also run on bio diesel which is better for the environment, in fact you could run it on veg oil. how ever if you are the type of person who doesn't maintain their cars IE timing chain don't bother with a diesel.
go with Toyota or Hyundai for value & dependbility..both great cars for the money.whether it be pounds, dollars or yen..
l've had no experience with diesel.other than following black smoke.
Be Blessed <><
i have a very pimp (hehe) 1998 z24 chevy cavalier. pink. and it only costs me about $20-25 dollars to fill up. i wouldn't trade it for the world. U should look into one but it uses unleaded 87. hope this helps ya!
deseal is more effisent
TUT,TUT,TUT , you let your timing belt get to that stage. No more Renaults . promise?. Try a wee Astra , solid and reliable (only with a good and genuine service history though). What's the first thing you check or ask? the timing belt. I had an Astra for , wait for it , 12 years , great wee runner. You would get one for away under your 1500. go for the 1.4i , anything upwards tend to be gutsy on fuel. Don't go for reds (they fade fast) , blues keep their colour best. Always take someone with car knowledge with you. Spend a little time sussing the car out , there are website out there that can track any outstanding issues (if any) about your future purchase , they charge about £25 or so , well worth it though!!
try a fiesta, go for petrol
