I am looking for a car seat for my son who has Down's Syndrome.?
Answers:
I also suggest a Britax seat, they will last a long time..up to 65 pounds I think. My son is 2 and it has worked well for him. The other thing I would suggest is to leave your son in a rear-facing position for as long as possible. My son is STILL in rear-facing mode on the advice of his pediatrician. It is a safer position overall, and better for your child's neck. As you may know, children with DS are prone to C1-C2 instability and a sudden jarring of the neck can be very dangerous. Even though my son's legs are getting longer and he has to bend them a bit in his seat, the doctor put it all into perspective for me when he said if we are in an accident, it's better if he breaks an ankle than breaks his neck. Also, since your son is still quite young, the seat tilts back more in a rear-facing position, so he will be more comfortable.
Good luck!!
try britax, they do quite good car seats for children with disablitys and I know because My sister has one
Hope this helps
Try Mobility? or Social sevices?
Most all new ones have good head/neck support. If you can't find one that supports as well as you need, you can get one of those head supports like you'd use in an infant seat..it'll work in a regular one just as well. Also, they have those neck supports that are in the shape of a U..kinda like a little miniature boppy pillow. They work well to support the head & neck & you can get either one at wal mart really cheap.
we have just bought our daughter one from Argos and she is seven , it's great because it still looks like a baby care seat it has really good neck support. its a mamas & papas
