My wifes p reg ford escort starts o.k.,but when warmed up,will not tickover, keeps cutting out.?
Answers:
If it starts when cold then fuel and sparks are working. Something electrical is breaking down when hot by the sounds of it. If it runs OK each time you start the vehicle but just doesn't tick over, it could be temp sensor problem, idle control valve or one of the other sensors/relays.
what year? It could be a number of things. sounds like one of the modules is getting hot, when they do that they quit working. take it to a shop.
presume its a petrol, two thing come to mind, running rich or needs a good service, i would start with the service esp plugs and filters
could be the choke is closing too early
A bit like a woman, goes off the boil very quick!
It's fuel injected and controlled by a computer with leaves just two reasons.
It needs resetting, (unlikely) or the timing belt needs attention, (most likely)
Nice car.
i own a repair shop, and i think you mean the starter keeps kicking out before it will start ,its the heat from the engine that gets too it that causes this to happen,if you replace the starter it will take care of that problem, all the escorts did this after a few years, but i know of some that went well over a 100.000 miles without ever getting a new starter on them, but its time for starter, just make sure you get good one so you don't have to do this job again, good luck with it,i hope this help,s.
change the fuel filters, clean spark plugs
try changing the coil
Is it fuel injected or Carb?
i have had the same problem - it was the ignition module - about £57 ish from motor factors - the module breaks down when it gets hot
most likely culprit is the Idle air Control Valve.
You dont say what engine it has , at a guess i would say it might simple need the tick over screw needs screwing in to increase tickover speed
