Yeah i agree anything with a small engine would be great if your a young driver. Depending on your budget i think the best small car is the toyota yaris. It may cost a bit more than the corsa and the fiesta but it will depreciate less and should be more reliable.
buy a corsa or fiesta ..both easy and cheap to run and repair and both suitable for 1st timers ..
You have to consider Insurance, so get a small engined car to start with. Japanese cars are the most reliable at the moment, look for a low mileage one. Find a garage for night parking, make sure it has an alarm. Good luck
Get the AA or similar to check out any second-hand car you buy from an individual.
If you buy second hand from a garage, make sure you get a warranty.

so before buying a car get a few quotes on a few cars that
you like then go for it.

Take someone with you who knows about cars and my advice would be to go to Arnold Clark's to buy nearly new and they have these cars checked out by RAC.
