Answers:
def the golf, although they're a nightmare to insure, even if you've got full no claims bonus. Def go for the R32, but get an insurance quote 1st just to make sure that you can even get insurance!!
If you care about safety- don't get a Saxo, they have performed very poorly in crash tests in the past.
I'd choose the Golf anyway- Saxo's are for 17 year olds.
The R32 3.0 litre is un****ing beleivably fast, good looking and so comfortable to drive. Go for that, plus it doesnt depreciate too quickly.
You should not get a license! First, your attitude is one that perpetuates bad driving. Second, your first car should not be a pocket rocket if you don't have the training or experience to handle one. For goodness sakes, you are 24 so grow up and be responsible.
I'd keep the money, buy an older Golf for around £2000 which has a lower isurance rating, when you first start to drive you have a 50% chance of crashing each year for the first 2 years, if you crash a really nice car which cost you all your savings it will be much more painful, and as pointed out until you build up a year or two no claims insurance companies will cane you on the premiums for driving a fast car.
I have no clue what a Saxi VTS is so I'm assuming you live in the UK or something.
But the R32 is a nice car. If you're willing to spend that price. You should also look into the
Mitsubishi EVO
Subaru STI
They're both quicker than the R32 and the EVO will run you about the same price, the STI will run you about $2,000 - $3,000 more.
Wow wish I had a choice of those two as a first car! R32 waaaay quicker than a VTS but if you value your life I'd go for something a little milder for your first car as traditionally this will be the one you wreck in an accident..
especially if you are planning to teach the "kids that race around town" a lesson, thats the mature attitude that also means you're that accident waiting to happen, hope you enjoy conversations with policemen.
Go for the R32 - it's got class.
Probably best to check the cost of insurance first though!!!
I think that by the time you get a licence you will be able to buy a spaceship with british euros.
Firstly, forget hot hatches. If a lack of esperience doesn't sting you, the insurance will while you haven't got any no-claims-bonus.
£10000 is a nice about to play with. Try a Focus 1.6, Fiesta 1.4, Golf 1.6, etc. Once you've built a bit of NCB, feel free to get your pocke rocket.
As for the Saxo. your budget should actually net you a newer C2.
Golf, about 2 years old, save about 40% on list price.
Grow up 1st though, or you'll kill yourself or even worse, someone else!
