What documents do I need to tax my car?

The Post Office says I need my log book, but looking around on the internet (direct.gov.uk etc), nowhere mentions the log book.

Problem being that my registration document (is this the same as a log book) is in my old address. My insurance is in my new address. Will this be a problem?

Okay, that was more than one question . but hopefully it makes sense!

Answers:
You have to have your log book, unless you have a renewal form from the DVLA, if you have that then you just need a current MOT and insurance certificate. - If you dont have the renewal form from the DVLA you have to produce the log book
You'll need your insurance and mot certificates and your log book which is your registration document.
you need a valid insurance certificate and a MOT certificate.. no log book requiered. ohh but you might want to get the log book details to read your new address for future reference.
The bit they sent you to get it taxed again, your insurance certificate, and enough money to cover the tax for either 6 months or 12 months. I assume that the reminder they sent you is in your new address, or you wouldn't have got it?
you can do it online it takes 5 days to arrive..they already know all the details and the insurance.try it and see, you should have no problem
The V5 (your registration document) is the same as your log book. You will to send it to the DVLA to get it updated with your current address.

You will need a valid MOT certificate and your V5 (log book) to buy your car tax.
As far as I'm aware you just need a current MOT and insurance document as well as your fee and form that was sent to you, I think it's a V10..
you also need and mot
VALID INSURANCE DOCS AND VALID MOT AND OBVIOUSLY PAYMENT!
You can tax it online: http://direct.gov.uk/diol1/doitonline/mo.
