How much am I looking at for a new alternator for a 1.8tdci focus?
Answers:
It will probably cost you more than the car is worth to fix, you will be better off scrapping it. Better still you could give it to me for free as the scrap man will charge you around £150 to take it away.
Aren't you supposed to lose power and the engine cut out on you if its the alternator? One of my cars used to do that to me and wouldn't start again. Are you sure that someone at the garage hasn't been playing around with wires or something in order to get more money out of you? Would it be better for you to ask another garage?
Try buying or borrowing a multimeter attach it the the car battery when it is running and when put on the right setting it will tell you if the alternator is putting out enough power.I believe it should be between 12.5 and 14.5 volts.
Im no mechanic but shop around ask people as the saying goes its not what you know its who you know what
