Sat Navs require you to take your eyes off the road. Mobile phones don't so why are Sat Navs legal ?
Answers:
sat navs speak out the operation and they only have a display for setting it up and for the passenger
also try having a conversation o the phone when taking a drivers test it would be hard
becouse the goverment or f cked up
u dont need to take your eyes off the road, just use the voice instructions, ihave for the past 15 months and had no bumps yet
sat nav enables you to follow it as most of them speak instructions to you. mobiles decrease your attention on the road and make you look like a right a*** at the wheel hence they were made illegal.
Sat navs have the facility to speak and tell you directions. If you need to tinker round with them then you should pull over to do so. If you need to glance at a sat nav screen it wouldnt be for as long as some pratts do to drive along texting on a mobile phone. That is why hands free mobiles are legal the same as sat navs are !
Many satellite Nav systems have voice over directions. Meaning that you do not have to look at any screen, but simply listen to the voice instructing the driver where to turn etc. Mobile phones, when held to the ear, are illegal in some states while driving because it is 2 front issue. One, you're now driving with one hand (cause you're using the other to hold the phone) and two, because you're now focussed on something other than driving.
It is not so much that you take your eyes of the road, it is the fact that with mobile phones you have to take your eyes of the road(however momentarily) AND let go of the wheel with one hand, that is why it is know law that you have to have a hands-free kit. It is untrue that you NEED to take your eyes of the road with a Sat Nav because most of them have audio directions.
With mobile phones you become involved in conversation which further compounds your distraction. Apparently its the talking that lessens your concentration on the road rather than taking your eyes off the road momentarily.
Being an owner of a G.P.S. they do not require you to take your eyes off the road. All the gps systems I am used to using actually talk to you. They tell you each and every turn to make, when to keep left or right.they tell you exactly how far your turn and when youare approaching it.They talk you to your destination.. That is true.
picture this.you approach a junction and are on your mobile phone.
You have to indicate where you are going you have to change gear..maybe even stop..and hold the phone to the side of your face.how many hands do you have?!?!
so do road signs and those matrix that tell you to keep watching the road its all wrong mate but its just something else to fine you on
this line of thought leads to - why not make rear view mirrors illegal, they require you to take your eyes off the road ahead!? Sat Navs prevent far more accidents than they cause as you will know if you have ever followed someone who is lost.
