Will my car fail MOT if ABS has failed but brakes work well?

My ABS light is on but the brakes work just as well as ever will this auto fail the MOT?

Answers:
If its there and not working it will fail. If its disconnected and out of use they can pass it. Best thing is to get it looked at and a quote for repair.

I had ABS on a jag that wasnt working - took it for MOT and they said if its connected they have to include it on the test. If its disconnected they didnt have to test it. My other half disconnected it and the car passed.
you have the worst car in the world
no but if they do just brake the light that should do the trick ha ha lol
your abs probally hasnt failed a common fault is the sensor has dirt on it as its close the inside of the wheel, ask a friendly garage to check it
yes mine did last month
If ABS is fitted and not working the car should fail, they check that the warning light comes on and goes off within a few seconds, however I'm not sure that all testers are that diligent..
im afraid it will fail - the ABS is part of the safety system, if that isn't working its a fail. I would get it checked before the MOT - might be a clogged sensor or an electrical fault.

PS if it does fail you should get the retest free - if not go to a different garage!
Yes it will... if the ABS warning light is on this indicates a fault of some kind and therefore not working to standard. therefore it is a fail I'm afraid.. starlet10 what are you talking about, if ABS is fitted as standard to the vehicle then it must not be disconnected and if it is it will definitely be a fail.
Should do. The MOT isn't that in depth.
They put it on a rolling road which forces the wheels round, then they hit the brakes and as long as the machine reports back a certain force and both wheels brake the same amount, it will pass.
Yes it should fail. The ABS fault indicator light should extinguish, showing that the system is functioning. Although failure of the ABS still leaves you with 'normal' brakes, this is still a failure item.
Yes your car will fail it's MOT. If ABS is fitted then in order to pass it needs to be functioning correctly

When you put the ignition on the ABS light will go through a sequence to indicate the system is funtioning correctly. This is just typically the light coming on when the ignition is turned on then going off again several seconds later. The MOT tester should make sure this happens and if it doesn't the car will fail.

So disconnecting the light is not an option.
The brakes continue to work withowt the ABS. However during a panic stop, your car will be less stable than if they work. There are sensor wires going to every wheel and magnetic pick ups in the wheel that senses a sudden change of speed at that wheel position (lock up). The abs switch sends a signal that releases the break pressure in milliseconds, until the wheel begins to turn again, 100's of time per second. If they do not have an dynomometer, they could not test this. However, just the light being on, if noticed, would fail you.
yes your car will fail but if you are desparate take the bulb out of the warning light they are almost never looked at if they do not light up
Yes it will fail , most likely a wheel sensor gone down
