My car is a nissan serena - the engine is under the front passenger seat.?

when it broke down smoke poured through vents, and from under seats. Front seats became very hot, could it have caught fire, had we not stopped? Is there anywhere I can get this in writing?

Answers:
The heat from under your seats was your catalytic converter melting. It's part of your exhaust system and will overheat from the things like oil and fuel your engine spit out when it died.

wow
i never knew an engine could be under the car seat
great heated seats. keep you in the winter
I have a nissan serina and the same thing happened to me. The engine got really noisy, lost power and smoke poured into the car where myself and my four children were sitting. It was quite scary 'cos I thought it might catch fire or blow up or something.
The engine was shot and the oil had got on the exhaust pipe which was of course very hot - hence the smoke. I was assured that it would not have caught fire but it was the quickest that the children and I had jumped out of the vehicle!
Yea the engine is under the driver's seat although you have to tip the front passenger seat to check the oil.
when's the last time you looked under your seat? how could your engine possibly fit between your tail and the road, unless it was one of those new half-cylinder pancake jobs
It is very difficult to tell what happened to your car with only limited information. The chance of it catching on fire are very slim and you're not going to be able to get that in writing. The heat was most likely from the transmition that sits directly under the cab floor. If you had not stopped the vehical what not have gone much farther before it would not move.
first of all, why is the engine under the passengers seat? it shouldnt be. 2. serenas suck big time
