Is there a correct number of miles that dictates when a car must have its CAMSHAFT replaced.?

It is an expensive job and do not wish to do it IF it is not necessary.
How do I know?

Answers:
do you mean cambelt ,camshaft usually lasts life of the engine ,where as cambelt has to be replaced at a mileage set by the manufacturer details usually in the hand book.
cam should last the life time of the car, it takes a mechanic or experienced amatuer to tell you and its very expensive, keeps your timing belt up to date is most important
the only way you should replace your cam is when there is a loping in the engine.
a compression test should tell you if you need to.
pay to have a reputable shop chech it out then change it if you need to
Its the camshaft belt & it will be in the maintanance book, Cost around £130.00 I had mine done after 7000 miles
camshafts can last over 250k miles if oil changes are regular,a worn out cam has visible problems, easy to spot but on most cars you have to do alot of work to remove it
The camshaft usually will never need to be replaced, unless something causes one or more of the lobes to have serious abnormal wear. You do not say what engine you are referring to, or the problem that you are having, so I can not give specific advice. If it is a belt driven camshaft, you should replace the belt (also called the timing belt) every 50k-90k miles, depending on the engine, but the camshaft itself should last 3 days shy of forever!
Usually when the cam shaft goes, the car is done.
You may as well buy a rebuilt engine than tear down the existing one. It will be cheaper.
no, a camshaft can last for ever if the engine is serviced regularly, if not it can be vulnerable to blocked oil ways and poor oil that drains away too quickly. Then it can be knackered in 30,000 miles

Depends on the car as to how expensive it is, and whether you do it yourself, you will need gaskets, cam belt, oil change etc if you have it done
should last forever get a new car
If it sounds like a pair of trainers in a washing machine then I'd think about getting it sorted!
the camshaft is not something you replace at intervals. if you mean the cam belt, check with the manufacturer. it may be 30K up to 100K.
No !! If your cam shaft is worn the first symptoms is usually a rattle from the engine on tick over. They normaly last for the life of the engine.Regards MIck.
obviously the camshaft and followers do wear. but just check the profile. Has it worn on the peak of the cam. It would be most unusual for it to do so unless it is a very old car. as long as it is not noisy and is only worn a couple of thou then you will not need to replace it
