My car vauxhall failed the mot,Garage ask me to pay roughly £900.to repair, wat should i do,thanks for the ans
Answers:
Get the repairs priced at at least 3 garages, then decide if it is worth having done,if you decide against, phone a local scrapyard, they will collect it and give you a few quid for it b.o.l.
Get a second opinion first.
then ask yourself if the car is worth less than that. maybe it is time for a new car :)
Look for a breakers yard that collects in the yellow pages.
How old is it and what model
Get another MOT test done, he's trying it on.
my simple rule is if it costs more than £300 to repair a car get a new one its probably cheaper in the long run. you could sell it to a local mechanic or something because they will probably fix it and sell it on or use the parts and then scrap the car either way you will get some money out of it which you can use towards paying for a new car.
scrap it and buy another car for £900
you can buy a reliable second hand car for that amount, ask the garage to dispose of it
How much it costs can depend where - if it's failed at a local vauxhall dealership - definately get another quote
They can't fix your car without permission, therefore they can't insist you pay £900. Take it to another garage for a 2nd opinion - some mechanics may well come to you if your car cannot go on the road. Ring round. Before I got a new car, (with warrantee) I used Darren Chatburn 01706 260101 in Haslingden. He was very good and reasonable so see if he can help.
can you get the parts required from a scrape yard near you, if you decide to scrape the car again your local breaker should help ,£900 to put a car through an mot sounds waste of money.
seems bit ott to me!!
how old and how much is the car worth?
get a second opinion
Start asking friends and friends of friends if they know any mechanics. There's always someone that wants to earn some money on the side and who won't be out to rip you off. Get a recommendation.
ps aint part of mot
do what i did take it to the auctions. you might not sell it or make any money but at least it is off your hands alternativly you can take it to a scrappy and they will take it from you. make sure you inform the dvla
Hi did you get a list from the garage? if so take it to another garage. but make sure its a mot (only)garage. there is a really good one. (who only do M.O.Ts)right next to Accrington Stanley, Football Club you won't be dissapointed if you take it there.
Drive it to the scrap yard opposite Asda
