I'll get a lot of flack for this answer, but, I have a Hyundai Elantra and I have had it for 6 years now and I LOVE IT! Great on gas, always starts, stops and goes, no prob! Leather seats, CD player, Flood lights, back wiper, Aluminum rims (no hub caps!) The one I have is a GT. It has 4 doors and a hatchback which is really awesome. Lots of trunk space. The one thing I would make sure you do is check the saftey rating for the year and make you are planning to buy. Ive notices with the Hyundai's that different years rank quite a bit differently in the saftey rating.
Try another corsa.
A hoopty.
Honda civic. pretty cheap if used.
try a 1.4 astra they are cheap on insurance and tax, i do have one and she has been very reliable xx
what budget do you have?
Ford fiestas and Nissan Micras spring to mind for being cheap and reliable - the ford will be cheaper to insure though
Look at the Renault Clio - ideal for above
A driving course.then maybe you should buy a bike
'The wheels on the bus go.'!
Why bother..You'd probably just crash that one too!
Sorry..HAD to do it!..A honda Element is great. We LOVE ours.
Nothing about how most women drive is funny anyways such as you wrecking your car. Also, I don't think you could be any more vague on the car. You didn't give a price range or really anything. I could name 30 reliable 4 door cars. Accord, sentra, maxima, camry, corolla, civic, blah blah blah.
I would go with a Chevy Cavalier. I currently have a 2 door, and it is awesome. It drives smoothly and very nice. And the insurance on it wasnt all that bad.
You can always go for a Saab, I hear that they are one of the most reliable cars. I am not sure on what they cost. But I am just putting some ideas out there for you.
There is also a volkswagon car (not station wagon), but there are volkswagon 4 door cars and they are pretty cute looking. Kinda small though. Sorry, I am just giving you ideas.
Get another Corsa, they fit the bill, although 4 door seem to be quite rare
Another corsa. We always buy vauxhall, but we recently went a bit sporty and bought a renault megan coupe convertable. Needless to say 2 mnths on we are back to vauxhall, no1 one else can match them. We have kids too.
Saxo
Toyota Yaris. I've got a 4 door one and it's efficient with petrol and in 5 years hasn't failed an MOT. You also get the groovy digital speedo. The boots are quite small but the back seats can slide forwards making it bigger and there is still enough leg room for passengers in the back.
Buy a bus pass & leave the road to safe drivers.
as a mum with 2 children i would go for a ford as if anything goes wrong with it parts are cheap and you can go to scrap yards to get parts also and they are cheap to run also get a car with a 1400 engine or less cheaper tax also check out ebay can get some bargain cars if you know what your looking for
Elantra cheap and reliable, do you own service.
I would recommend a 2000ish Toyota Corolla.
Get a Ford Fiesta
Check out a ford fiesta, cheap parts and cheap to run, and cheap insurance.
It might cost a bit more to buy in the first place than other makes but it will be worth it.
honda civic reliable and pretty
Honda's are very reliable try the civic.
I've always loved japanese cars. They're fuel efficient, easy to drive and maintain and they aren't all that expensive. You should look at a Toyota or a Honda. They can be very fuel efficient and they have smaller 4 door models that aren't all that expensive. I'm not familiar what kind of model you can get for a 1000 pounds, but I assume you can get a 94 or 95 model for that price.
GOOD LUCK
Try Shanks Pony
In my opinion, citroens are good. (and cheap new) I have a 15 year old cireon AX and really push the cr*p out of it.it has only 4 gears and i manage to get up to 90mph.
Apparently japanese cars are the best for realiablity.
right now i drive a 2000 cavalier z24 2 door run realy nice besides all the work i have done to it (tuner car) i would imagine a 4 door cavilier would be just as nice , we recently just bought a 99 ford tauras 4doors (familiy car) pretty roomy but mine seems to go through gas pretty quick. My cavalier does better on gas it seems like. I would also recomend the mitsubishi lancer or galant.
£ 1000 is dodgy territory price wise, enough to hurt if you buy a load of rubbish, not enough to get a guarantee.
Whatever you get a service history showing a cam belt change within the last 2 years 24 000 miles has to be essential, otherwise you need to change the belt, like £ 15 plus labour, I just got quoted £ 325 to £ 400 to change the belt on a petrol Toyota,
I always change the belt when I buy a motor but it is £15 and an afternoon of my time.
Car breakers often have cheap sound motors for sale, T reg Mondeo 100 000 miles short tax and test for £ 900 at my local breaker yesterday.
If you liked the Corsa get annother. better the devil you know
Hondas.
