On the way home my lights power went dead car would not start again?
Answers:
Im afraid it sounds like your alternater has died
sounds like your alternator isnt charging up your battery!
sounds to me like your alternator you need a new one.
Battery cablel came lose or the altanator is shot. Autozone will test both for free before you take it to a shop (if you can get the altanator out and to them. ) Battery cable you shoul be able to check youself.
would not start, or would not crank? If your engine wouldn't turn over, your alternator went, and your car ran off the battery until it was dead. No more juice to start your car. If your engine cranks, somethings wrong, take it to a mechanic.
This is usually a bad alternator, although a bad connection to the battery somewhere can cause it and sometimes the battery itself fails, usually in one of the six internal cells.
Once you get the car to a garage, they will put a tester on the battery and alternator to tell you what the problem is. You can hope for the battery as it is much cheaper, but I think you will find that the alternator is the problem.
Good luck in the mean time.
It might be the timing belt, Did it break? Battery, alternator need to be checked as well. If the belt is fine and the car cranks, it's probably the alternator not charging the battery and your battery is dead.
it sounds like the alternator
Everyone has rightly suggested the Alternator, but it may also be just a bad earth, I had a similar problem and all that happened was the earth bolt had come loose and fallen out. New bolt, tightened up and P'Ding all systems go.
Although the alternator worked the circuit was incomplete and wasn't charging the battery. Good luck
You don't mention if the engine was turning over when you tried to start it.
Possibly a lose connection on one of the battery terminals.
Or could be that your car has a lose Earth connection, check these first (they are the easy ones) hope this solves the problem
alternator is definitely dead. Take it off and go to auto zone with it, that way you dont have to pay the core charge.
your probably looking at a dead alternator go to local auto zone etc.. and get them to check it ! has to be taken off first
what sort of car is it a petrol or diesel?
i think u have the answer for this, in most of the above answers, it does sound like the alternator, check that the belt to the alternator is tight, and in on one piece ie it has not snapped, as a new belt is alot cheaper then a new alternator. take the belt off and spin the alternator with you hand, it should spin freely and smoothly, not be hard to turn. then check all the connections on the back of the alternator, to make sure they are all free from corrosion and not loose.
replacing it is very easy, it just a case of disconnecting the wires at the back an undoing 2 bolts
hi was there a faint humming sound? and a funny bright light coming through the window? sounds like that UFO i seen flew over you. it took my electrics too. tee hee
