VW Polo will not start?
Answers:
Seems possible it is the alternator. First though, check to see if there is any current drain from the battery when the engine is off. Connect an ammeter to the +ive terminal and feed off the positive supply from the ammeter. Don't switch the engine on though or any other electrical gadgets. If you dont have an alarm/imob. or anything else connected, there should be hardly any power being drained. A couple of hundred miliamps is normal if there is alarm connect to the car. Anything above this, and something is wrong. If all ok, it is likely that the alternator regulator is faulty. You will need to get this tested/replaced (best left to a qualified electrician)
I would get a more reliable car - japanese are the best - ie micra, mazda or toyota - you can do no wrong with those!
even if the battery accepted a charge, it does not mean that your battery is ok. how long have u had the battery ? if it's more than 3 or 4 years, i would seriously consider getting a new one. also, it could be the alternator, but u would have to take your car to a mechanic to get that tested. they can run tests to see if the alternator is putting power back into the battery. also, having the car stood inactive for long periods of time doesn't help. i've had the same problems with a vw polo ranger in the recent past.
check simple things 1st,like boot light pull down back seat while boots shut. buy a cheap multimeter, with engine running battery should show abut 13.5 volts meaning alternator working. join a breakdown service (AA RAC Green flag ) with home start when they come out to start the car they will tell you whats wrong. tescos breakdown you can join on line and they come out same day
