The Alfa is a beauty compared to the Golf, but the German will be less likely to fail on you.
If you're after peace of mind get a Golf. If you're after something different, and are willing to expect a few niggles, the Alfa will be fine.
if given the choice i would go for the golf

i advise the alfa but never buy a new alfa because they depreicate soo much. but if u like small, fast, costy cars get the golf

DEFINITELY the Alfa. A description of a clinically insane person is a person that could buy an Alfa, and then buys something else!! The Golf just looks so bland, so boring by comparison, and Alfa's really are the original fun car to drive.
I have had both and can honestly say that the Alfa is on my favorite car list! Yes is rattled my bones, it blew bulbs like I smoke cigarettes and the fuel guage lied but then the Golf had to have a new engine after 14000 miles. So buy the Alfa, put up with the quirks and smile a lot!!
Golf for me
GOLF...they go on for ever, parts are easy to get and depreciation isn't too bad. The reverse applies to the Alfa, I am told.
