I drive a small truck. How much overhang is permitted on loads?
Answers:
Go with whatever your happy with, at the end of the day it'll be you that ends up in court if the load is classed as dangerous not your employer. If your employer insists it it 1 Meter ask him to show you proof for your peace of mind and if he can't just say no.
contact the ministry of transport who will put you right,,if you load up,, you will be fined and or your license restricted.
by the laws it shouldn't be any over hang because it is unsafe to you and another out there on the road.
anything protruding past 4 feet off the rear has to have a red warning flag on it.
You can have a overhang of over three metres according to the ministry, but for loads upto 1 metre a red flag must be attached to the back of the load so it is clearly visable.
Although you must be aware of the weight also.
1 metre to the rear with out a marker and additional lights at the sides about a foot
(marker red and white triangle)
In the USA on the interstate it's 18" from the edge of the vehicle, after that it's an oversize load and must be permitted.
