I assume that you mean drive it to the garage when you have no insurance on it. That is against the law and you would be charged with no insurance. You would get an IN10 on your licence and 6points along with a fine and not to forget higher insurance quotes.

As long as you pay for insurance, you keep it no matter where your car is. On the other hand, if your insurace lapses, and your car is still registered, that is where the fines start coming.
If the car is not insured (through cancelling the policy or freezing it) you cannot legally drive it anywhere, you can't even park it on the road. If you want to take it to a garage after the insurance has stopped you will have to pay to have it taken on a flat bed lorry. If you have an accident while not insured, not only will you be found to be at fault regardless of who hit who, you will also be liable to pay for all repairs yourself and will probably be prosecuted too.
Best option is to not cancel or freeze the insurance until the car will not be driven again.

I wouldn't risk it, if a police car radios in your registration for any reason at all they now not only know if your road tax is out of date but the police national computer has access to the insurance database so they will know instantly if you have no insurance. Another thing to note is that if you cancel before the end of the full one year period you wont gain a years no claims bonus.
why do you want to freeze it for a few days? its almost the 3rd anyway. I'd comtinue paying it b/c a lapse in coverage can cost you a whole lot in the long run

However anyone who has car insurance is usually covered to drive any car on a third party basis. Can't you ask a friend/family member to drive it there for you? (but check their policy first).
