Have a toyota hiace, cant turn the key when i put it in the ignition on steering colum, help pleese?
Answers:
im from america so i dont know what a "hiace" is. i however had an 83 toyota celica with this problem. it also had the button to remove the key. im not sure what the problem was but here is how i fixed it. i went to the wrecking yard and found another ignition switch. i wanted to keep the same key for the doors/ignition so i took out the key pins from the broken part.(there are about 5 of them that are specific for each key) and put them into the new key switch (keep them in order) from the wrecking yard. if you are ok with different keys, just a new switch should do.
the wheel may be locked, try moving the wheel to the left and/or right while trying to turn the key
I've had problems related to the steerling whell being locked. I had to rock the wheel side-to-side and finally the ignition safety cleared and I could turn the key. Good luck
Insert the key and try moving the steering wheel left to right. If the steering lock is engaged, it won't move. In inserting the key, insert it little bit hard, move the steering wheel before turning the the key for ignition.
Wiggle the steering column, if that fails try starting it in a different gear or with your foot on or off the clutch, on or off the brake. Auto makers have utilized all sorts of less than user friendly "safety" features over the years.
If none of the above worked you may have a pin in the lock that has dropped out of place, it would allow you to insert the key but not turn the barrel. The barrel needs replacing if this is the case,
If your ignition key has a hole through the end, the pin that slides through this could be damaged but can be replaced.
