I have had a knee replacement. When I go through airport security, will the metal in my knee set off the alarm
Answers:
It depends on what they used (they use different metals for different knee types). Luckily they will have a hand scanner which will show that it is under your flesh. I would recommend that you wear a skirt or trousers you can easily pull above your knee as they might want to have a look and you would not want to have to take trousers off in front of the whole queue!
yes, my aunt had her knees replaced and she sets them off every time!!
all my bits never do.
Probably not, but you can get a TSA implanted medical device card for your Orthopaedic Surgeon to fill out for you.
HI!
My niece is an AIrline Stewardess. She advise me "no"
It is always good to carry a letter form your doctor for emergency reasons though. have a safe trip
You should of had your penis enlarged. Then you'd be safe going thru the airport security. But seriously, knee replacements are usually made from titanium - that doesn't get registered by those metal seekers at airports.
Yep it will. But they will understand why. I hope you aren't afraid of being teh center of attention for a breif moment :)
If you are think of a happy place *Gives you the sound of an ocean breeze*
BEEP BEEP BEEP
And if that doesn't work just laugh :D
Yes,
If you go to your doctor they can give you a card for security that details the extent of the metal that they have implanted. This provides a detailed description for wanding and will prevent some unnecessary screening.
your knee implant is titan 90% and it is a metal so ..it will make beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!but u will be happy at the exit cause with some luck they striped u off!:)
Absolutely, they will ask you to put your knees on the conveyer belt to be x-rayed. Good Luck.
Yes it will I am afraid to say. My ankles will do the same as they contain titanium.
No. The airport security alarms, unless they have been changed since, do not detect anything hidden under the human skin. My father had a huge titanium plate put in his arm, and doesn't set the detectors off. It's only when they come to "wand you" that you need to run!
i have a whole artificial leg.no sirens, no little men with machine guns looking worried.
It may do, just let the security people know that you have had a knee replacement, you will find them very understanding.
Have a nice holiday.
It depends on how sensitive the settings on the detectors are. I understand these can be adjusted. With the current high security mearures in force, it is possible, maybe even probable, that it will be set off.
My wife had bolts in her leg a couple of years ago and it didnt set anything off then.
As others have said, take a letter from your doctor and you will be fine.
probabley but dont worry, just tell them before you go through and you will be ok.
probably
yes it will it is worth taking your xrays of your knee what with raised security nowadays
possibly but un likely, just bring a doctors note to the airport just in case
yes
I don't know about knees , but I have 3 titanium screws in my foot and they have never a metal detector off.
