I just bought a focus st did i make a good choice of car or shoud i have got a vauxhall astra vxr?

Have driven for 60 years and had at least 50 cars if not more.
I maintained my own and about ten other models at some time or another included a Mercedes 1982 from new.
My choice is a middle range Ford every time.
Starting with a 1933 Popular to a Focus Ghia in 2004 I have never had one break down. Certainly some were better than others but with a minimum of knowledge any fault makes itself known long before the event.
As for driving and speed? Well that depends on skills.
My 1.6 @ my normal speed within the speed limit is faster than most including sports cars. No brakes until I stop, and gear work all the way, with 2000 RPM max.
They last forever or at least until some clown meets you head on in a bend on your side of the road.
But even then you have time and choice as to where to hit him for his safety.
I think you have made the best choice..

Fantastic choice. Practicallity and speed all in one. Pitty about the depreciation though, but still better than a VXR
abit late for having second thought's now, don't you think? lol
Road handling of the focus is way better than the vxr. Speed through the gears is on the vxr side but for comfort the st is better.
Personally I would have bought a subaru or a evo on a earlier plate which would blow both of them away

In the past i have had 2 Vauxhall corsa's 1 astra and 2 Ford Focus's.
The Focus is the best out of all of them.
I would not drive a Vauxhall again!
I would prefer the vxr myself but thats only because I really don't like fords atall.
Still I hear the st is a pretty good car so as long as your happy with it then its fine.
Just for sheer reliablitiy.the ford.
You made an alright choice. I quite like the drive of an ST it is a much better car than a Astra Vxr.
The Vauxhall has got a lot of power but no control, plus people laugh at people who deive them. Then again if you have got an orange one expect the same treatment.
Right Choice not necessarily a Good one though, New Type R with an upgrade is worth waiting for. More money than the Ford cos I imagine you got a large chunk off, Ford have started taking 25% for employess now it has been out a while.
This will effect your residual value if you change your cars often, it could be worse the VXR is a depreciation nightmare, 1 its a vauxhall and 2 no one will want to buy it anyway.

both good cars id be happy with either, the vauxhall hasnt got the 5 cylinder growl though.
employees are not yet getting 25% off these cars, and 2nd hand one's are still fetching new money. average wait for a new one unless you take what they have is around 3 months.
