Is it worth buying the 2.5tdi 163 Audi A4 version instead of the 1.9tdi 130?

It looks like the 2.5 has about the same power output up to about 2500 or 3000 rpm, do you ever notice the extra power or is it just a way of using up more fuel? Also, is there a significant difference in the smoothness and noise of the engines? I seem to do a lot of motorway driving for hours at a time and I think it would be annoying if this turned into a noisy rough experience.

To answer your question thruthfully AJ, while I would personally plump for the 2.5 because of the bigger punch it packs, the thing isnt that much more refined than the 1.9 (which is to say, if you're used to a petrol they are both quite noisy) and doesnt make for a practical purchase in the UK.I mean, if you get a £200 fine and 3 points on your license everytime you get caught going 8mph over the speed limit, do you really think you're gonna need it? And think of the extra fuel bills you'll rack up stuck in London traffic. For the size of car, I think the 1.9 will do just fine for UK roads and traffic. Its a decision made with the head and not the heart
It packs a bigger punch for sure, so if you enjoy throwing yourself around country roads, it is worth it. I used to have the A3 with the 1.9.. fantastic motor!!
Give me the 2.5tdi 163 anytime,Its hands up winner for me over the 1.9tdi 130 ...
The TDI 130 has plenty of torque and is a pretty brisk car to drive in town (great for getting away from lights promptly), and good to cruise on the motorway, get still responsive.

The 2.5 is more powerful, and faster, but it is heavier in the front. For making "brisk" progress on country roads, I preferred the 1.9 for a responsive, fun and quick drive.

I used to get 40-50 mpg from the 1.9 with my mix of cruising and town motoring (I cover 30,000 miles/year)

I had the 2.5 for 6 months and I was getting 30-40mpg. A noticeable difference when I was paying for a lot of the petrol myself!

Both good engines.. I just don't think the 2.5 is worth the extra cost or fuel bills for the additional power you get! I'm sure you'll love whichever version you get.
yeah the TDI Audi anyone of them are pretty good but there is not anything like a S4 or a RS you have a lot of power it more expensive than diesel but its absolutly better. But about the two engines you mentioned before for sure its better and has a lot of power the 2.5 youll be so happy at highways.
