Difficulty starting my Renault 19. The battery seems fine. It starts easily if push started.?
Answers:
Starter motor or solenoid - or a bad connection.
the starter is broke my friend.
A Renault 19.? unlucky pal..and it's more than likely your starter.
No, that's about all it can be. If it drags, growls or clicks, replace starter.
Check your battery terminals are clean & tight. Did you change the battery because of the starting prob? if this is the case, and you have changed the battery and nothing changed..maybe it is your starter motor. But, clean the terminals, and put a spot of vaseline on them.
usuall faul is caused by crank sensor being tired, it lives on top of the gearbox by head, held in by 2x 8 or 10mm bolts and cost about £20 from renault.
wont start off key but bump starts straight away.
If its bump starting and battery is fine try replacing the starter motor,is it cranking?
Just keep pushing it. You will build yourself up for later when you have to push it all the time. It is a renault.
If its petrol its almost certainly your starter motor. If it's diesel it still is most likely the starter, but if its becuase it can't compress properly that would be lights out.
if there is some cranking but not fast enough to stsart the car then you have not got the correct battery fitted there are differant cranking strengths on a lot of batteries.
If there is no crank at all and a clicking its the starter motor thats n.f.g. i am afraid, have you checked the relay out?
good luck.
When attempting to start vehicle with key listen for a clicking noise. If no noise present you could have a faulty ignition lock or broken wire between ignition and starter. There is a single small wire at starter motor see if there is power at it whilst key is at the start position.
