You have to make it a viable fuel first. You cant just get cooking oil and dump it in a diesel. It wont work. But yes it is a legal fuel source. Ok to all you people who say it will work as is. This is a fact if you do not install the converter on the engine it will destroy the truck. I know a guy that had it happen. so eat me.

And actually it definitely DOES work and you don't need to do anything to the car - its not like converting it to gas.

Cooking oil (whether used or unused) which has not been specifically produced or processed as a road fuel, will normally be classed as a fuel substitute. The duty rate will be the same as the sulphur-free diesel rate.
The important question is whether the finished fuel meets the legal definition. If a vegetable oil used as road fuel meets the fiscal definition HMRC will be happy to accept that it is entitled to the duty rate for biodiesel.

It is legal to use it, but you are supposed to pay own up and pay the VAT.
If you mix it at 20% oil to 80% Diesel your motor should run ok, as you increase the oil to diesel ratio after that you will find that it will be harder to start on cold morinings as the oil doesn't burn as easily as diesel. The exhaust fumes are healthier but smell like a chip van (honestly)
Check prices, I found that Pura 1 ltr bottles off the shelf in Tesco were cheaper than the bigger ones per ltr. It can be a bit messy- you have been warned. Have fun.

No you can not legally as it is not classed as a fuel and the tax has not been paid on it as such, so in theory the Customs and Excise could come and give you a fairly hefty fine for using it as a fuel.
