Who aswell as the uk drive on the left side of the road and why?
Answers:
The Us picked up driving riding on the right hand side of the road because, when teamsters in the United States and France began hauling farm products in big wagons pulled by several pairs of horses. These wagons had no driver's seat; instead the driver sat on the left rear horse, so he could keep his right arm free to lash the team. Since you were sitting on the left, naturally you wanted everybody to pass on the left so you could look down and make sure you kept clear of the other guy's wheels. Ergo, you kept to the right side of the road.
(edit for my dumb mistakes)
Australia is one. I'm sure there's many more but I don't know which. And why? I've no idea!
Australia. The reason is lack of traffic signs and cops?
Cyprus; most, if not all, of Asia; Australia. Why do the US and Europe drive on the right?
Australia, UK, most of Asia.
OUr cars are built differently, steering wheel on the right. and when i say right, i mean right.
and yes, why are america and europe on the wrong side of the road?
Most places that are owned or formerly owned by the British also drive on the left. It was ironic that in the caribbean, they have American cars (driver sits on the left) but they drive on the left side of the road. Overtaking other cars was not as easy.
They drove on the left because they carried their swords (& guns)on their right side allowing them to draw and fight back in the days of horses and carriages.
I forgot why the Americans picked the right. Maybe because of manual transmissions?
His a map to which countries drive on the left and which on the right and also a complete list of those countries:-

The historical reasons why are in the following web page:-

I know that Indonesia drives on the left because they were colonised by the Dutch (which would mean the Dutch drive on the left as well).
Singapore also drives on the left and follows British road rules because of the British influence on Singapore's history. The same goes for Malaysia. I think Thailand does as well.
I think most of the countries I have visited bar France and the US drive on the left.
But sorry I don't know why they drive on the right.
India drives on the left hand side too. The answer for question why? is simple. Road Safety.
And how road safety, is i suppose u should read the safety regulations book. I will cut this short ...
1) In country which cars are driven on left has pavement for people to walk on left as a priority means the person usually walking will face towards the car.
2) So as similar to the countries which traffic drives on right such as canada has walking pavement on right hand side where people can be visible quickly (e.g weather conditions or dark etx).
3) The cars or country in which is driven from left has a right steering wheel in which case the driver always get in the car first and last person to get out, basically for safety purpose and vice versa for the same people driven on right hand drive usually made for the country of left driven cars origin.
But nowadays since import & export has exhaulted, the origin is dimished such as good japanese cars as exported by a left hand drive to a country of canada example for sales. But are less encouraged and has to make a new edition (means assembled in a different country for passing the safety regulations). I hope i have tried to explained it in short.
When Napoleon conquered Europe the first thing he did was to change the road usage from right to left.
This made surprise attacks on his troops impossible since most people are right handed. Britain was never conquered so remained as we were.
The French backed the rebels in North America after they lost the battle for Canada after the defeat of the British by the group who finally called themselves Americans.
When the victors decided what language they would use because of the large numbers of Europeans, it was a narrow contest that ended with English being chosen, however the roads went the European way.
During the English and American war the French backed America and the English lost.
In Paris American Banks are everywhere as a result of this close monetary tie between the countries.
Recently the French are, or were, taking America to court for spying using satellites to eavesdrop on their industrial secrets.
Our State in the UK was modelled on the French equivalent after were lost to the French when they used English traitors to do it.
It has not change in 1000 years, unlike the French who changed theirs after the French Revolution.
Britain has always been let down by its Elite and they nearly succeeded in the last war.
It is all recorded in history.
Originally, as already stated above, horses rode on the left on the basis that everyone was right handed (to be left handed was a sign of the devil hece the word sinister which means left in latin and dextrous which means right (dexter) in the same tongue) and so could draw their sword and fight.
Cars are a different reason although the comment on Napoleon confusing his enemies is also correct. In the 1920's Japan had no car industry and the first cars produced over there were kits of Austin 7 cars which of course were all right hand drive. Hence, the asiatic countries have followed on from there and are mostly RHD - Korea, Japan, Singapore etc. There is also a question of colonisation so South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica and Barbados also drive on the left for that reason. Sweden was one of "us" but in the late 1960's all traffic stopped at midnight for five minutes and then everyone moved gently to the other side of the road and they changed to driving on the right. Must have been confusing for a day or so!
