I am having to buy a car for under £1000 as im a student-what would be best value?

Is there anyone that can tell me what car is a decent car to get for around £1000 as i have to buy one soon but i haven't a clue - my male mates keep on about not buying certain cars because of the parts costing a fortune if anything went wrong.I want a pretty thing but im not buying another clio as that is the one that im having touble with now and its put me off - if someone could let me know there suggestions that would be a good help as im looking at cars but haven't a clue what is best value for money, what is a realiable car etc.

Answers:
I would concentrate your search on Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa.

- They are reliable, cheap to insure and parts are inexpensive.

Go to www.desperateseller.co.uk and www.autotrader.co.uk

Set the filters to:

seller: " trade and private"
min: "£500"
max: "£1000"
age: "up to 10 years old"
miles: "up to 40,000"
distance: "national search"
sort results by: "price low to high"

- Even within these tight parameters you'll have Fiestas and Corsas to choose from.

Good luck.
civics are usually cheap, get good mileage, and reliable
something under 1099cc, ford r good as parts r easy to come by and cheap.
Toyotas or Hondas are reliable and mostly trouble free.
ford fiesta's have been around for years for a very good reason !

ford shot themselves in the foot when they built such a cheap long lasting reliable car hence their attempt to replace it with the shoddy KA which was only introduced to excuse the increase in price of a new fiesta .
Ford Kas and Fiestas,Toyotas, honda civics, Pugs 206/7, lots to choose from and these models are reliable and fairly easy to come across plus lots of dealers and parts.
You should consider a micra cheap to run and good value for money. But you nust be prepared to spend a bit on it,and perhaps you could put money at one side for this.Always remember that safety is paramount.
Nissan micra 1 litre-m reg suitable 4 you,or vauxall corsa m reg, affordable with ur budget, and parts is cheap, i have got one, that reason my recommendation. good luck
Sounds like your from England. Check into Ford Escort. It's a decent little car and gets great gas mileage. I do believe they were sold in England.
I just bought a toyota for 500, its old but in incredibly good condition, i'm really happy with it.
Citroen ZX Diesel.
Cheap to come by and it is a Peugoet 306 in disguise.
Ours is great, really relible and parts, insurance and running costs are cheep as chips.
try a pug 306 turbo diesel cheap to buy and cheap insurance very econmical.
I go for Ford Fiesta coz is cheap to run also parts are easy to get and cheap!! don't go for Renault, Fait or citroen and if you don't like Ford then go for Vauxhall Corsa they are a good cars and suitable for young people with low budget so go for either Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsa and good luck. P.S I'm an ex car dealer.
Ford Ka or mitsubishi colt
if u don't have kids then i'd say buy a mini metro. my sister has one and she paid under £1000 for it brand new.
Go for a Ford Fiesta, sound, reliable.

Keep away from Punto's(look in any scrapyard)

Rover's are rubbish

both have head gasket history , not cheap to have repaired

Renault Clio's as you say are crap.

another good buy is a Corsa, nice and nippy.
buy a scooter or a battery operated bicycle both are easy on the pocket.
id say a peugeot 106 or a 306 as the diesel is very reliable but the petrols are faster you can also get a silver sporty version of the 106 and there very good cars and if something does go wrong then it wont be that much cost for parts
good luck
