Not enough people have CB radios that it's a big safety concern. Like motorcycles. We, in cars, must wear seatbelts, must have airbags, yet motorcycles are far more dangerous and are still allowed because it's not common and so it's not a big problem. A lot of people who have CB radios are truckers, professional drivers who should know how to drive well and have much fewer accidents per mile than most people already.
mobile phones are restricted in some places while driving becuase of high number of accidents,cb's and anything that distracts could be limited if states wanted as well
The law says both hand must be on the driving wheel.except when changing gear making hand signals, operating controls of the vehicle, holding a CB microphone is against the law.I operated a cb radio in my works vehicle until I retired but always tried to hide the microphone if I thought there was a police car approaching.There was a voice activated microphone which was ok but I dont know if it was succesfull.
With a cb radio only the microphone is held in the hand.You press to talk and thats all.The unit is tuned into the channel by a knob on the fashia of the cb and there is an inbuilt speaker or the driver can also fit an external speaker.You are allowed to use a mobile phone on the move IF its fitted into some form of a hands free setup.You are NOT allowed to hold the mobile and make phonecalls or text messages while driving .Hell you are supposed to not even have the engine running while the vehicle is stopped.
Be sensible and obey this law or it will cost you £30 and a bollocking from a copper.The word is that they will be making it a £60 fine and 3 points on your license. Not funny.
