Skoda Felicia cuts out after running for a while.?

My estranged wife has a six year old Skoda Felicia that for no apparent reason cuts out from time to time. After a few minutes the car will start and runs ok for a week or so then starts playing up again. One time, fortunately while turning onto the drive, the car cut out and the steering wheel locked preventing the car from being steered! I've looked for obvious electrical bad connections in the engine compartment and I'm about the spray all electrical connectors with WD40. Any suggestion what it might be?

These days it could be a number of things that you will never find on your own.

My car was having running problems for some time and after a great deal of investigation it was found to be a bad earth on the CPU that cut out the fuel pump.

I think you will have to take it to a garage and have the CPU downloaded/analysed and check out any fault codes.

A skoda? What were you thinking when you brought it?
it does this when tuirning right? (or left) check the ignition plug connections, make sure thyer tight.

or, its fuel starvation, the carb is full, until you demand power, and it empties faster than it can fill up. run out of fuel recently? could be a clogged jet iin the carb.or gunk in the fuel line.
hi ya i would try changing the ht leads regards animal
I had one of these which did exactly that.

Most often, it would cut out when stopping at junctions etc.

The dealership changed the throttle sensor and then the ECU, but it didn't make lot of difference, although it did help.

Then, for an unrelated reason, I had the thermostat changed - and it never did it again!

Coincidence? Don't know, but it might be worth a look
Firstly I would imagine that this skoda is fuel injected as apposed
to having a 'carb' as suggested by one of the other answers.
How does the engine run on tickover?, If it's poor then you may have a fuel starvation, or digging deeper there may be a very small internal leak of some kind, or again if the car is equipped
with a management system get it checked out.
