I have a mk 5 escort xr3i and the battery light comes on when under acceleration why is this?
Answers:
Loose alternator belt as aaadvied by several above is first candidate - another is a loose connection to battery or earth strap. Try the belt tightening first. Then disconnect the battery and clean up the terminals and re-fit nice and snug. Follow the earth (black) cable to where it connects to the body and also metallic webbing strap from engine to body metal. Sounds like one of these major connections might be getting pulled apart as the engine moves on acceleration.
Probably a cheap and easy fix - good luck.
fan belt s slipping underload suggest you tighten it. If this doesn't work then you willhave to replace it.
Didn't know they even made an xr3i on the mk5! Probably a loose alternator belt, this will be confirmed if it starts squealing as the weather gets colder.
Loose belt .. adjust Alternator
Might be the alternator isn't charging correctly or a bad earth somewhere. Get a battery taster on it and that will tell you if the alternator charging and you know to look somewhere else.
something wrong with your alternator. Check your battery is okay as well.
My Fiesta is doing the same at the moment. Needs a new alternator!
I can't wait to see how rob's 'battery taster' works.
you need to get a new alternator or as a much cheaper option take it out or get someone to do it for you and get it reconditioned for around £30! When your battery light come's on it means the battery is not being charged.Good luck
You will probably find that your alternator is on the way out and your alternator is not charging your battery.
could be a slack fan belt or alternator brushes worn, check wiring on back of alternator is sound
go for the lose belt first mate. if no joy find a local garage that do recon alternators, they will want your old one but under half the price of a new one.
faulty alternator most likely answer,or may even have a break in wiring loom to alternator.
Alternator is only charging battery at low idle not high idle, take out alternator and have parts store test it.
