Volkswagon golf or ford fiesta .
mazda miata - very reliable
toyota is great, and long running.

My hubby in the car business, he always says buy japanese they last. Or a vauxhall or ford as parts are cheap. Or volvo, another reliable make. Stay away from french and italian cars.
by the way I have a volvo, (never been a moments problem) previously had Nissans, same story.
