Can't give you an answer because you never said exactly what you did. US $60-80 per hour is about average but the customer's not going to be happy if you charge him extra just because you had a hard time doing the work. Frankly if you are starting your own business you should already have the standard labor manual that tells what the chargeable time should be. I'd suggest getting the appropriate references so you don't come off looking like someone who doesn't know what he's doing.
my garage I go to charges £50 an hour. and by the looks of it they have been creating more work for them selves. coz it has been 1 thing after the other. I need my matrex done now coz water was pouring through the air vents. i took it back to the garage. Nthey told me £200 its about 3 hours work and £50 for the part. anyway after closer inspection of where they have to go to do the matrex. it looks like some one has already been fiddling about down there. as the aerial has been pulled out from the back of my stereo. and I know it was working befor i took it to the garage. to have the water pump done just a week earlier. good luck any way on your new adventure.
2.5 hrs is reasonable time for to charge if job was done properly it is worth trying to get hold of cd rom from autodata this gives you repair times as well as timing belt data maintenence shedules and loads of other data on hundreds of different cars and light commercials. iuse it in my garage.
