I have vauxhall astra 1.6 when i press clutch in it sounds like a hissin of air any ideas what it could be?

is it normal to hear air or hiss noise from cluch when put down to change gear. it only makes that noise when pressed

I'm thinking you have a vacuum leak someplace. Inspect it for a loose vacuum hose or seal. Hope this helped.

It could be your release bearing. Its part of your clutch. Does it make a noise when the engine isnt running? It definantly sounds like there is something wrong with your clutch assembly. Parts are like £70 and labour is like 3.5 hours. If it is that. You must get it looked at asap, cause the longer you leave it, the worse it gets. Hope I've helped.
The throwout/thrust/release bearing is bad. It rides on the pressure plate, and is activated by pressure from the fork, which is connected to the pedal via cable or hydraulics. You can drive it till it breaks, which may be never, or rebuild the whole clutch assembly with a 3 part clutch kit containing throwout bearing, pressure plate, and friction disc. Buy it yourself for about $125 and find a mechanic or do it yourself in 4-8 hours. Good idea to resurface the flywheel too at a machine shop for $35. Labor for total job is $2-400. These are US dollars.

Not normal its the clutch release bearing you need to remove g/Box to rectify.
clutch release bearing is worn.the clutch bearing will get worse and worse and eventually break up causing vehicle to breakdown if being driven at the time,so to prevent embarrassment,this problem needs addressing a.s.a.p,you will probably be advised to change entire clutch kit at same time,but this may be cheaper than breakdown recovery charge and time off from work etc.
Is it a hydraulic clutch? possible leak somewhere.
