my daughter drives one all the time cos she is always going bush in it (a real 4WD nut) hills/bush/mud/water if you tell her it cant be done she will keep trying

Because anything men can do, women can do better.
I drive a four-wheel-drive vehicle (a Jeep with a standard transmission) because I live near the mountains, and it's one of the few sensible vehicles out there for mountainous terrain.
God knows but aren't they really annoying? Surely the average normal vehicle is big enough to seat at least three kids in the back? Those things are hazardous and cause more accidents than other vehicle types.
Maybe they just need to feel macho and that's why they do it?

They mostly drive SUV's to feel safer.
The feel safer because of the high driving position. Also, the sheer bulk of these vehicles makes them feel less vulnerable to other drivers bullying them.
There is a lot of bad publicity about these vehicles. I don't drive one myself, but I think people should be able to drive what they want. I get a little annoyed when people try to tell others what to do.

there was the time you used a 4x4 for a purpose ie I was a farmer and 4x4 was a necessity if it was muddy you got yourself out of all sorts of problems also in snow and ice you just put it in four wheel drive and pull yourself out of trouble also put a winch on the front and literally pull your self out of anywhere .Now be honest can you see anyone on a school run or city dweller using 4x4 for any of those reasons no.the women are using them for a battering ram I'm bigger than you get out of my way.true i am afraid so .And i am a woman and now i drive a family estate car,carries all i need is reliable and looks nice and is economical to run.!

Who really cares?? Why do people drive big V8 Mercs? Why do people drive V8 BMW's? Why do people drive motorcycles like they're on a race track? Why do people bully on the motorway? Why do kids drive like maniacs? Why do people ask stupid questions?
And for you dolts, on about gas guzzling, my Pathfinder get 33m/gal, and my Jeep Grand Cherokee on propane, gets 40m/gal, if you consider the price difference, and propane burns far cleaner than petrol or diesel.

Why does anyone? Those damn things aren't suited to UK roads. They're far too big and they take up most of the road. Have you ever tried to get around one in a country lane? Also, their fuel consumption is ridiculous and I consider it selfish to pollute so much for relatively short journeys.
They're designed for US roads, which are much bigger and where journeys are generally far longer.

Depends on where they live, Cities like LA, Dallas and Miami don't really need them. Here in Minnesota we don't close down for a foot of snow, so my wife has one for the 20 mile drive to work and the 20 mile drive home. As for being cute and cuddly, she hates the thing, but it gets her there in nasty weather and can't afford to insure a third car for the nice days of the year.
This really annoys me. Seeing one Snobbish woman driving a 4x4 after they have driven through that 'oh so rough terrain' of speed bumps and pedestrian crossings to get there snotty little kids to school.
Anyone who thinks there not doing any harm, they're actually a)the worst cars for the environment. b)the most dangerous car compared to any other if involved in a pedestrian collision.
I hate city 4x4's, I can understand them in the country and in areas where there is rough terrain but not in the city.
they use them for the school run so their child don't get knocked down, but it's ok for them to knock down other peoples children!
