What is the timing belt interval (for replacement) for a VW passat 2002, 2.0 petrol car?
Answers:
VW now recommend timing belts are changed every 4 years regardless of mileage. 2.0 Passat needs checked at 60k & rechecked every 20k until 120k when then will need changed.
I would change at 60k or 4 years whichever comes 1st.
40,000 miles
If in doubt change it.
I've had 2 belts (on 2 vehicles) go this year, it's very expensive to repair the damage
It should be between 30-50,000 miles. However, grab a manual for the car and check the belts out. There are different conditions in which you should change your belts and the manuals will let you know what to look for. Things like cracked belts, or uneven wear patterns.
i looked it up on all data for you. the 02 passat doesnt come with a 2.0 so you prob have a 1.8L engine.VW recomends timing belt and tensioner replacement at 105,000 miles
Official time is 80,000 miles sensible time 60,000 miles .
VW dont actually specify a mileage for changing the belt. It should be inspected at every service after 30000 miles to check for wear and ageing. Not only does the belt need cahanged on this car but the pulleys do too. They are made from a bacolite material and they eventually disintegrate and can cause the belt to slip/break. My advice is if it has,nt already been changed at 60k, get the lot changed. Its a lot less expensive than broken valves.
