Ford had a lot of engineering troubles with it, many expensive ones. Look elsewhere, Probe is not a good choice.

they are ok but the problem is that the parts are hard to find if you need one and if you find one then it will cost you big time .id look for a cadilliac in that year they are a good ride and cheap thats what i did but you do as you will good luck tho:)

there were two versions one with a four cylinder and one with a V6. Both I believe were a bit troublesome. The four cylinder lacks power and the V6 will be thirsty. For a first car it will be expensive to insure. You would be better looking at fiesta,ibiza,yaris type cars to get your first year out the way for insurance.
And what about the name!

A friend of mine used to work for Ford as a salesman and they used to laugh whenever anyone brought a Probe in to part exchange. Especially 1.6 White ones !!
I have always been told that Ford only make trucks well.
don't buy the probe, never touch it, because it is the worst car on the world even worst then Korean cars, the probe is using the Mazda engines, Mazda produce one car is good just the RX7 not others. I had a 2nd gen probe the v6, almost every half year u will need to pay a big sum of money to change parts, (dizzy, rotors, valves, air con compressor, MAF, ball joint, CV boot, etc i really can't remember what else i 've done on the car. actually u will be paying bit by bit to built up the whole car.
listen to us don't think about the probe. think of something like Honda, Toyota, dodge, etc, but NO MAZDA/ PROBE.

Probe is Fordspeak for Crap!
This is what I would do.
Forget the probe that is a bad car, will cost you a lot to maintain. If you want a fun stylish coupe look at the Honda Prelude the vtec engines are bullet proof and the performance and reliability is great.
2.2 vtec is a good car go with this they are brilliant cars.
