Can anyone tell me what are the problems with buying a cat d or cat c registered car.?

Problem is selling it on again.
Cat d is probably best avoided, serious damage.
Cat c may have had slight damage or been stolen recovered. Also, may have been in a flood - these can look ok but cause real problems over time.
It's a case of buyer beware. Check very throughly both the repairs and the ownership. And make sure it's cheap - 25-50% discount of the normal retail.

theyre basically scrappers. cat d is structural, and really just so much scrap metal, cat C is economic writeoff, coz its a two year old ford, and the price of a new wing is more than the cars worth.
cat D is also in the recorded, or not category. if its been written off and recorded it needs a raft of paperwork to put it back on teh road..if not, (because the owner is 3rd party only) you can repair it and use it provided (grey area) its structurally safe and would not be restricted from getting an MOT or engineers report.
cat c will need a vic check to confirm cars identity, cat d is minor,
if its cheap enough go for it!
Yeah they have been involved in an insurance claim.
Best to stay clear if you do not know much about cars.
cat c might not be that badly damaged,cat c means damage repairable and cat d means wrote off,hope that helped
