when i turn them on the right one moves up and then sticks the left one doesnt move at all, but my rear wiper works ok so it cant be a fuse. any ideas?

Hi, don't take it to a garage until you check this out first.
1/ Does the wiper motor work? if yes first and easiest next thing to check as it is easier for you or anyone to check the simple things first before you start stripping the car down, how old is your car? oldish? then check that the nut on the wiper arm is tight, if you are not sure all you do is wiggle the arm slightly left to right, if it moves and the other arm practically stays static then tighten up the nut securely where the arm fixes to the wiper mechanism on the scuttle panel, if after you have tightened up the nut and it still doesn't work, unbolt and remove the wiper arm assembly. Next, inspect the little round mechanism on the panel, it has little grip grooves same on the blade, if either ars worn off flat then you will either need a new wiper arm and or a new mechanism on the panel.
If your car is over say 5 years or more depending on how well the car has been looked after then it is very likely to be one or both I have mentioned.

2/ The next thing it could be is the mechanism that is connected to the motor, there are plastic cup joints on them that can wear or break

I personally think it is number 1, especially if the wiper motor works.

Let me know if I have helped you.

.the motor.the blades.see someone at a service station or mechanic's shop.it takes "hands on" to tell what the problem is.
maybe they are worn out and need replacing or your motor is not working
probably your wiper motor has had enough or alternatively knocked out of line, get a friend in the trade to look at it if u have one or buy the haines manual, or just simply take it to a garage
Sounds like the bushing in the arms that operate the wipers are gone. If you can move the wiper arms with your hand, that's probably the problem. Also make sure the wiper motor is running. Hope this helps.

Could be the motor, but it is probably the linkage. Your wiper motor only drives 1 wiper, and the other is attached to the first with a rod. When it moves, it pulls the rod which yanks the other wiper back and forth in time.
The fact that you have 1 wiper not moving at all leads me to believe that it isn't attached to the other. And it could be that the one that is moving may just be binding up on something because of the rod floating loose in the dashboard, and that's why is sticks.
They could have become loose. the wind passes under the wiper and therefore the blade may not wipe as with ease. Or you should you know what,.take it to the mechanic because it could be the wiring.
cheers
Drews in the right area I had a BMW this had a link arm and the rubber bushes go the whole link arm only costs about £6:00 so not expensive.
Some car uses only one motor for two wiper blades and some use one for each wiper blade. The motor is connected to some sort of rotating arm that would move the blade up and down and different car would have different mechanical design. It could be a lot of things that could be at fault. You did not dive us much information to go with. I recommend you go to your local auto supply store and look up the repairing manual.
