Were is the best place to trade my XJ Sport?

I have a Black 96 XJ sport. It's been a really good car. I'm looking for something a bit sportier tho. I'd like to spend about £500 trading her in. Anyone know anyone lookin for a swap or know a decent garage that won't offer me twenty quid as a trade in?

Answers:
Usually you'll get the best price by selling to an individual and then purchasing another car. At a car dealer's lot they'll usually find some way to "put one over on you:" Often you can get just as good a price witrh them without a trade-in.

Of course this would mean either "sitting" on your car until it sold, or doing without a car when you sold yours and before you bought a new one!

One strategy if you're going to go to a car lot:
First, find out how much your car is worth. I recommend just looking in the newspaper ads to see what cars like yours are selling for. Then go to the car dealer ands negotiate your best deal. Maybe even walk off the lot a few times. eventually the salesman will "lowball you: " That means he will give you the lowest price you are going to get.

At this point put your trade-in on the line: try to get as close to retail as possible. Just don't bring the trade-in into the picture at the beginning: offer it as part of the deal at the end!
