If you are talking about new cars, it depends on the car in question.
Prices and equipment levels vary between countries.
For example, a Mondeo Zetec is cheaper in Germany than in the UK, but if you add the options to the German version that are standard on the UK version, then it becomes cheaper in the UK.
The different tax regimes make a huge difference too. Purchase taxes in Denmark are very high, so the cost to a Dane buying a car is high. But if you are buying in Denmark for export you pay the taxes in your own country not in Denmark, so you pay the Danish pre-tax price which is often lower than in other countries.
The Baltic states (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia) came out quite well in the last study I carried out on car prices across Europe, but that may have been due to the precise models I was asked to compare.
List price and what dealers are selling them for are 2 different things. i.e a new Focus TDCi sport lists at £15000+, my local dealer sells them at £11495. I have been in the car trade for years and if you are buying your average run of the mill car it is seriously not worth the bother of buying one from abroad. You've got shipping and tax to think about too. What r u thinking of buying?
