I recently changed a coil on my 02 Fiesta but the orange engine warning light remained lit.how do I get it off

Ford want £70 to put it on their computer but I beleive that it is simple shorting a lead to earth but which lead on the computer connetor plug on the car

Answers:
the problem is that you DID NOT reset the ecm. you can do this yourself simply by removing both the pos. and neg. cables from the battery and let set about 10 min. then touch both cable ends together to remove and discharge the syst. and reconnect.

Also, once the car is driven for about 20 drive cycles, the ecm will recognize the system is ok and will reset itself.
There must be a loose connertion when you changed your coil, i would take the coil off, and put it back on again see if that works, or just recondition it.
Change the right parts first.
I would suggest re-fitting it, it may be that first time round the connection wasn't made properly & it hasn't registered. Either that or you've caused a knock-on problem with the electrics; some people have oil lights that stay on purely due to an electrical fault! I'd say try anything before paying £70 tho
hi you may try turning on the key switch do not start engine, with key on disconnect the - negative battery cable at the battery give it about 5-10 seconds then reconnect the cable light should now be off if it reappears you have a code it is cheapest to have diagnostics run Vs. trial and error replacement of electronic parts lots of luck :)
The engine warning light will remain lit until the fault it has detected is repaired.
You cannot tell the system to ignore a fault.
If you did find a way to "reset" the system it would soon re-discover the fault and relight the light.

Find another local garage with cheaper rates and the right diagnostic equipment, and get them to interrogate the system to find the fault - you don't have to use a Ford dealer.
obd2 needs to be reset auto zone can do it but usally wont you can buy the scan tool and turn it off yourself it costs less thain $100 and you can pull your own codes and your friends also

check with local shops to see if you can find someone that will reset it for you
some times not all the times if you disconect the battery for a while it will reset but it isnt soposto
Most "check engine" lites need to be cleared after repairs are accomplished. A "scan-tool" is used to accomplish this task, sometimes a few minutes of neg. batt. cable disconnection will "reset" lite status. Many auto part stores offer free scan testing. good luck!
the light need turning off with diagnostic equipment
try reversing the live and neautral lead on the coil could be reverse plugs to coil
I will tell you how to turn that engine light off ..just unplug the battery for five minutes and plug it back ..when you do that you are basicly reseting the computer and it will detect the changes you've made .WARNING. DO NOT UNPLUG THE BATTERY WITH ENGINE RUNNING THAT WILL AFFECT THE COMPUTER ..if it does not work i suggest you to take it to the dealership so they can run some tests with a special electronic device that can codified tha failure .
Hope this can help you
You should have a reset button on the EMC.If not disconnect your neg. battery cable.and let it set for 5 minutes. Then reconnect, your light should be out.
