Have a look at the Renault Clio, cheap to run and insure and they hold their value well.
Depends how small you want to go. The toyota Yaris is widely recognised as the most reliable small car. Honda Jazz after that.

I have a renault clio and I absolutely love it. Wouldn't change for any other car!
In USA? Honda Civic. Had a 97 that was still going strong at 165,000+ miles until it got totalled. Got a 2006 to replace it and I love it.

I'd say a Toyota, due to their reliability and build quality.
Stay clear of Vauxhalls, if mine is anything to go by they begin falling apart the day you get them.

Seicento. They are the cheapest small car to run, the parts are cheap and they don't gobble up loads of petrol. And they are cheap, especially if you are happy to buy second hand. The insurance is in Group 1 which is the lowest you can get. And they look cute!

depends how small but the kia picanto is really good. my dad has one. my sister has a fiat punto and she loves it. my bf is happy with his 206 as well. don't buy a ford ka as the petrol consumption is awful and road tax is expensive (£150 a year for mine) as it has high co2 emission levels.

You did'nt specify which country? In UK I drive Ford Fusion diesel. Hows this for facts.. 64 mpg Road tax £85 per year It is more economical than a motorbike. Thats abour 11 miles to a litre of diesel

I wish we could get the Renault cars here. Same thing for the Smart Car.although it is available here through Zap!.if you can pay for it in full. As far as I know Zap! does not offer financing for it.
