Need to locates the starter motor in my vauxhall vectra?
Answers:
jesus, this is a tough one. when you turn the key does the interior light dim? if so this could indicate undercharged battery. the starter motor is located i believe at the bottom of the engine infront of the gearbox. To be honest the best thing to do is to get a qualified vehicle mechanic to sort your problem, because there are many faults it could be, and it will in the long term save you time and money to get the right fault fixed first, rather than trying different suggestions until you get the right one. Last time i bought a reconditioned starter motor it was £70. thats £70 you wouldnt have to spend if it is a faulty battery. Save yourself time and hassle, and get a mechanic to look at it for you.
Go to your local libary and borrow a Hayes manual. All the info is there.Just do what i do,scan the page you want and return manual.Hope this helps.
I would presume you are of a non mechanical background? Not meaning to be condescending but you are looking for a large cylindrical object attached to your gearbox with electrical connections on it, which is on the end of the engine, at the left hand side when viewed from the drivers seat, on the Vectra, it is only accessable from the underside. I would suggest if you don't know what you are doing, take the car to a mechanic who does.
When looking in the engine bay it is on the right, but you wont be able to get to it from there, so go under the engine and look up it will be there.
If you are looking to remove it and replace it I would suggest getting a Haynes manual and some axle stands to give you better access.
I have changed starter motors before but not on my vectra, as the access is a complete pain!
You need the car on a ramp for this job its not accessible from the top.You need to take it to a garage are you a member of AA or Rac if so they will do it for you.
Follow the large red cable from your battery. It will eventually end at the starter.
