Are you scared of driving?

I haven't drove for about 2 years now I have a license too but I'm scared stiff of getting involved in an accident.

Even when I am in cars now I am getting anxious about the person driving and even the other people on the road! I prefer to walk to most places when I can like the docs.

Is it normal? or should I just face it and get driving again?

Just wondered if anyone else has this problem.

Answers:
Im driving about 7 years now and still get scared. Especially at night time. All you have to do is keep an eye out for the mad drivers and let them off ahead of you. There is nothing worse than some idiot driving right up behind you and then overtaking on an bend. These people are the ones who get away but cause accidents for other drivers.

Just get out driving even for a few mins a day and your confidence will be boosted.

Good Luck.
Why don't you try a couple of 'refresher' lessons with a driving instructor or go out in your car with a friend when the roads are quite to build up your confidence again? There is no need to rush yourself and you want to be safe on the road so just take your time. Good luck - I couldn't be without my car and the independence it brings.
i,ve never wanted to drive, it also frightens me,
I had this problem. I was 40 years old before I plucked up the courage to sit my driving test. Even once I'd passed I had to force myself to drive as I was so nervous. However, now I drive everyday and I'm no longer nervous. The more you do it, the less an issue it becomes. I suggest you take a couple of refresher lessons with a sympathetic instructor when the roads are quiet. You'll surprise yourself and you'll be driving with confidence in no time.
Yes, me too - I've haven't driven for 2 years either and daren't drive on a motorway or many dual-carriageways, since passing my test over 12 years ago. I know the latter is not an uncommon problem. I'm not sure what to do about it either.
i work in an insurance salvage yard so i see some pretty badly
damaged cars but in most cases most people walk away with very little injuries, just choose your car carefully some are better than others
No, its not normal but I too used to have driving sessions til I had a car accident (feb, 2004). Nothing serious but the car was written off but Im trying to overcome it & want to start next year.

Maybe you need to talk to a therapist?
I'm not scared of driving but other drivers scare the life out of me sometimes with their reckless and pointless manoeuvres!
The only way to overcome the fear is to start driving again.

I agree driving can be frightening as cars have got faster and people are not able to handle them.
What you have is an anxiety disorder, do an online search for "lucinda Bassett" and/or "attacking anxiety" her site will help you understand why, and how to overcome.
any1 that is scared to drive should not be on the road, they are indangering theirs and other peoples lives, your best to give up.
I have OCD and I get overly obsessive, anxious and worried about driving, other drivers, programmes about drunk drivers/bad drivers etc, accidents, pedestrians, crashes and so on. Needless to say I've not yet passed my test. Maybe you have an anxiety disorder.
In the UK - Yes
