Hi Ive got a 98 ford zetec engine running at 2000 rpm after new idle valve fitted , why is this?

The engine had no idle speed(would not tick over) so I fitted a new idle valve. now the engine ticks over at 2000 rpm any body no why? thanks

Answers:
The computer controls engine rpm by adjusting the idle control valve.. Is it the correct valve, is it sealing or is there a vacuum leak. You might have to disconnect the battery to reset the engine controller..
The valve needs adjusting to lower the rpm's to around 650.
You need to adjust the mounting position of the valve to bring the idle back down to 600-800 rpm range.
if this is a escort then what i do is put a little bit of brake fluid in the idle air control valve as these stick even a new one .Rev the car at about 3000revs for about 1 min and let idle this should cure it
try disconnecting the battery for ten minutes to reset the ecu so it can learn again.
