Why do advertisers in the motor industry use partially dressed women to market their products.?
Answers:
Actually most car conpanies DONT use partially dressed women to advertise cars, unless u are talking the Max Power brigade. I thinhk it is just a mis-conception that has stuck in peoples mind. Think about ANY mainstream car manufacturer:
Ford - smart bloke in suit - SMAX
Honda - beardy man singing
Citroen - ice skating robot
Vauxhall - two little boys (they do have the surfing one, but women barely in it)
Seat - Man in a car
VW - Couple in a dealership spitting coffee.
I bet if you go to the motorshow next week, all the big companies will have attractive looking women, nowt wrong with that, but bet they all in suits
Well, since the product sucks, might as well use the worlds oldest advertising scheme to bring in customers.
sex sells. it's a well known fact.
unfortunately, sex sells
it must work
Because the lure of sex sells products.
Quite simply it sells
Because
1) most motor industry products are bought by men.
2) most men are straight
3) most straight men's attention can be grabbed by partially dressed attractive women.
Works to get MY attention, at least!
The same reason anyone uses anything to sell a product . . . the marketing technique works on their target demographic.
The industry think that men generally buy cars not women so they use a sexy woman to insinuate that you could have a woman that looks like this if you drive this car.
A man is more likely to remember an ad with a sexy looking woman in it
Are you really this stupid? Or are you so pathetically lonely that this is a desperate call for attention?
You noticed didn't you? Well that's your answer.
To attract attention to their product or service, and to give their company an image of being glamarous and appealing to the public.
cuz the testosterone works the same in our sexual and in our budget-for-cars-money-saving functions
Because they have to be at least partially dressed. If they were totally nude, then the commercials or ads would not be allowed. Oh, did I look at it the wrong way?
Well then if you look at it from another angle, all we men think about is sex, and if we see a scantily-clad woman, then it captures our attention, and sometimes we may even pay attention to the rest of the commercial!
It's an ego thing that only men understand. Women do not have to prove themselves like the male species do - the advertisers are appealing to the male ego - implying that if they buy this car or that car they will attract this or that type of woman, but we (women) know that is a load of ****** as most men wouldn't know what to do with them if they could afford them.
Previous answers are spot on, its just to grab mens attention to the item on sale. If there were more male models half naked draped over cars they would maybe sell more cars to women. Women have money too.
'cause the men knicked all the leathers
I read this in Robert Cialdini's book called "Influence" Its in the chapter on association with desirable things.
"In one study, men who saw a new car ad that included seductive female model rated the car as faster, more appealing, more expensive-looking, and better designed than did men who viewed the same ad without the model. Yet when asked later, the men refused to believe that the presence of the young women had influenced their judgements (Smith & Engel 1968)."
I guess its cheaper to hire models than it is to put in the R&D to make the cars faster, etc.
It goes with the whole idea and image. If a guy is going to buy a nice cool car, then they need the reassurance to let them know how manly they are. The girls do that too I guess. It's still totally stupid. And MEN aren't the ONLY ones interested in cars!
sex sells
