Chrysler Voyager 2.5 Turbo Diesel. Anyone know how to tell if turbo is working or lagging. Mine seems sluggish
Answers:
its easy to tell if the turbo is working from the simple whistle noise it gives off, and 99.9% of the cars that come standard with a turbo actually have a fitted boost gauge of some description so on that half of it, you could simply find the gauge (normally on the dash) and see if your turbo is actually boosting, with most turbo diesels the turbo cuts in at just under/over 2,300rpm so listen out for it then. And as for it not working, well if the turbo begins boosting up but looses boost pressure the car will feel like its backing off, as if you were taking your foot off the accelorator, and if the turbo is overboosting, you will hear a backfire or splutter of some description. but personally ive never known of a turbo to "not work", as they work from exhaust fumes as long as theres fumes coming out the turbo will be "working", the oil seals in the turbo could be on there way out.. (heavy blue exhaust smoke) or if the turbo is actually shot then you should see a thick white smoke from the exhaust, if this fails to help you then do take it to your nearest garage and as for there opinion. i hope i have been of some helkp to you and that you sort your problem soon.
all turbos lag .. that engine stinks.. ok what did you think you were getting ,you got a tank with about 95 hp
You could try taking it to a garage that has a boost gauge, or take it to the dealer to see if they can check it out.
if it is an injection you can buy some thing to put in with the diesel to clean the injector motor I'm sure you will feel the difference. I did with my unleaded car. it is about £7 but worth every penny.
