Full beam headlights?

My partner and me have just driven back to deal from london. the road was closed into my town so we had to go right around, but as I am from the area i knew a shortcut. He huffed and puffed cos he didnt know the road (he was driving) and I told him to put his full beam on. He said, very crossly, that full beam lights are not to use to show the driver the way but are there just for warning a car coming in the opposite way, towards you that you are there. Is that right anyone, go on make me happy

Tell him he's a plonker from me will ya love
full beam is to help YOU see better.
You sound like the sorta babe who would love to flash someone.
He's wrong .. full beam is there to light the road up for the driver
I thought that they were to help you to see in very dark conditions as well but obviously if a driver is coming the other way then it's only manners to dip them again! What do men know anyway lol ;o)
Yes, it is supposed to help you see better. You're taught not to use your "high" beams to warn other drivers, but rather to just flash your lights.
both of you are rite. they are called high beam light and they should be used for warning another car, but you can use them if the road is dark and you nned aditional lighting
you are right , but he must dip them if a car comes in the other direction
The full beams on the car are for helping you to see on an unlit road, you dip your full beams when another driver approaches because you will blind the road so they would not be able to see where they are going. When the car has past you put them back onto full beam again. Your partner is wrong on this one.
high beams are for greater illumination for driver safety, not to be used in oncoming traffic, you are right
Hes talking rubbish - of course they are for seeing with
he is just in denial! - we know the truth hunny - he just doesn't want to admit his error!!
i think you should drive in future, what else is he wrong about when driving ?
That is wrong, they are so you can see where you are going and should be turned off as soon as you see a car coming the other way as otherwise you will dazzle them.you win girlfriend!!
ummm no full beams are used to lighten the way a little better. oncoming traffic doesn't like full beams as this blinds them.
Well I hope youre right because I live and work in a very rural area and use my full beam all the time to help me see where I am going!

And yes I dip them if someone is coming towards me before anyone starts lol
No, if there is no on coming traffic you can use your high beams. When there is on coming traffic high beams are not to be used. Does he drive much in the dark?
NO! Normal beam headlights are for showing others where you are - it makes sense! Full beam is to show you the road (in non lit areas) Obviously the guy is a bit of a P$?T and should read the highway code before driving again!

It is illigal to drive without full beam headlights in areas where there is no road lighting and it is dark.. As it is illigal to drive in areas where there is street lighting with full beam headlights on.
Full beam is there to help the driver see more clearly in areas without street lighting, the only time you go back to dipped is in fog, as soon as you are aware of another vehicle approaching or another vehicle is in front of you. Maybe you are feeding him to many carrots and he doesn't need them but you go for it you will be a lot safer.
My teenage friends always used the full beam headlights to annoy the drivers coming in the oppositee direction.
Full beam headlights are certainly used to light up the road better, but do dip it when there's another car approaching the opposit direction.
I take it he still believes carrots make you see in the dark ? turn the lights on fool lol !
Your partner is a prat and a danger on the queens highway.
The full beam on a vehicle is so the driver of said vehicle can see the road ahead clearly when the road ahead is unlit by street lamps. Full beam is a bright light with no other purpose than to light up the area far ahead so one can see further in the dark.
Full beam lights are mainly there to light up the road ahead, but, I rarely use them now, as soon as you flick them on another car is guaranteed to come around the corner/over the hill.and this is down in the farthest depths of Cornwall, what's the rest of the country like for nightime traffic!?
city slicker lol
what a fool. what else are they for but lighting up the path in front of you? oh i love smartarse men
If I aint famiilar with the road which has no street lights then I will aply my full beam lights. If there is a car in front I won't have them on and if I see a car coming towards me I will knock them off.
Eejit!

Hope you had a good laugh at his expense!!
He sounds like a right-tosser. he desperately needs to learn the correct way to drive, and 'warning' other drivers with full beam is likely to piss people off very quickly.

Christ, there are some ignorant numpties on the road.
