Is it possible to replace the broken central locking on my 1993 VW Golf, with a standard locking kit?

no you cant, get a second hand one.That is a complete unit , in a golf 3: golf one and 2 ,its easy a std lock kit.Remember golf 3 came out with a vac um system so not electric.Go to junk Yard.
yes that would be fairly easy to do, i'm sure you could go to a junk yard (called pick and pull here) and find the exact one for your car. It would probably cost you $10-15.
