What is the knocking everytime I steer left?
Answers:
yep.. it's almost certianly a cv joint.
i've never had one replaced at a garage, but i've found that it works out well to pick up whole axle shafts from a junkyard and put them on myself.
ball joints
YOUR KNEE'S
Check to see first how your steering fluid levels are
probably the ball joint
drive shaft
do it yourself its not to hard to just pack it back out with grease
need to know what kind of car you are talking about for the repair costs but check the cv joint itself
CV (constant velocity) joints need to be replaced in pairs. You're looking at about 100 dollars on average for each CV joint, plus the labor to put them on, which can be considerable depending on type of car.
The pedestrian you ran over is trying to get your attention. Seriously it could be any one of a number of things, some of which would be safety hazards if left undone. Have it looked at.
Assuming youre talking about your car and not just holding a steering wheel and running around, Its your cv joints, which are very complex bearings and cost a lot, lubrication and the integrity of the gaiter is vital.
it could be anumber of things that wrong with car from power steering to suspension go to a garage and best way to avoid being ripped of is visit a national retailer like nationwide or kwikfit as their pricing plans are standard across the country and the guys fixing your car are doing their job not runnung a business so are less likely to rip you off
Its the bushings. Bring it to your local garage
Sure it's not you hitting the kerb?
could be a lot of whats been said dont have to go to a garage to be ripped off try to do it your self if you can then all it'llcost you is the bits good luck
well if your name is don Corleone i would have said the corpse in the trunk.
it could be the ball joints, ask a few garages to have a look and give you a free estimate then your sure to find a reasonable one!
There's a few things it could be, cv boot, bearing, ball joint, drop link. Most likely the cv boot. This is easy to replace. You take the wheel off, remove the hub (the boot is a rubber cover packed with grease, looks a bit like the rubber end of a plunger), take the old one off, clean the grease away, put the new one on, pack with grease, tighten the cable ties, hub back on, wheel back on, job done. Easy peasy. No need for a garage.
If you're uncomfortable with this type of work on your car, you can attend car maintenance courses at your local college. these are aimed at women and new drivers.
take it to meachanic and see
most likely it's the CV boot/ joint, however it could be also the wheel bearings.
I don't know how much it would cost to replace the wheel bearings. it depends on extent of the damage.
here's a quick test if you wanna know if your bearings are damaged. jack up the car, and turning the wheels. if they turn, then my friend, your wheel bearings are damaged.
Checking the CV Boots/Joint yourself is easier. If you want to find images, just google "CV Joint" or Boot and you'll see what a good one looks like.

How to find out a fair Cost? Well, it depends on your area, however check with several mechanics. A lot of places offer free estimates.
NEVER, get your car serviced at a dealership. They charge twice the price or more.
cv joint has gone expect to pay around 40-50 quid
if there is a knocking when you turn left only then i would suggest that it is the CV joint which is worn, it is constant and a distinct knock, then i would go for this straight away.
Unfortunately it may be the offending driveshaft has to be removed and if the CV joint can be replaced all well and good but it may mean the whole shaft may have to be replaced.
So price can vary, phone up an autofactors like partco to check out the price of the unit then see what the garage tells you.
Good luck.
I'd suggest that this is the Constant Velocity Joint which connects the drive shaft to the wheels ( one each side )
Knocking or clicking like this means that the CV joint is worn and needs replacement - you can repack them with grease but it won't last - filthy job too.
This would be about an hour or so work for a garage, plus the cost of the part. We recently had this joint replaced on an Escort by our local garage, cost was £65. Depends on the make of car, obviously.
Cost will vary depending on area, and :
Make sure they show you the old part, so you know they have actually fitted a new one. Go to a reputable garage, which may be more expensive, but will save you money in the long run as you shouldn't have to spend more in getting somebody to rectify a cheap job.
