Cabin lights.?

Prior to taking off and landing, lights in the passengers cabin of an aircraft (the fuselage) are always dimmed. Why is this so?

Answers:
It is amazing how many people will answer a question even though they haven't any clue, Dogzillas is just plain dumb.

The only reason is that if the aircraft has an accident on landing or take-off at night, which probably mean all the lights except for the emergency lights go out, peoples eyes are adjusted enough to the darkness such that there is less of a delay in getting everyone off the airplane. In recent programs, the emergency lights have been supplemented by phosphorescent paint to show where the exits are on the aircraft.
They dim the lights so everyone can say their prayers. Happy flying.

Have a nice day!
so you feel more relaxed when you arrive at the scene of the crash
So that in an emergency people can follow the low power lights to the exits. And also that our eyes get used to the level of light outside so that of there is an emergency our eyes do not need to adjust to the change in lighting so people can be evecuated faster.

I hav answered this question so many times, simply dunno why you could'nt go to the discover section.
If the electrical system fails, the battery is only for instuments and emergency lights.
If the electrical system was to fail in landing or takeoff, the main lights would put a huge drain on the emergency battery.
It has nothing to do with comfort or the passengers eyes. That doesnt matter compared to safety.
so you don't see the pee stain on the stewardess dress
Voltage drop when they turn the landing lights on.
